Inside the Peace Corps’ Literary Universe

Books have long held a special place in the hearts of Peace Corps Volunteers. In the early days, Volunteers were provided with a “book locker” filled with reading materials to pass the time in the remote villages where they served. Later, Volunteers carried with them just a few of their favorite paperbacks. These soon became currency within their respective cohorts, passing from Volunteer to Volunteer and village to village. Of course, many Volunteers worked Cover Hi (1)as librarians, and hundreds of RPCVs have gone on to become authors, not a few of them reaching bestseller status.

This issue of WorldView explores the Peace Corps literary universe.
