NPCA has conducted extensive research on the global issues that Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs) care most about. Even amidst the current pandemic, climate change remains the global threat that warrants their greatest concern over the long term. Our research shows that RPCVs see climate change as “an umbrella issue” affecting many other global issues and "a threat multiplier" that exacerbates other threats. Climate change, for example, makes future pandemics like COVID-19 more likely due to global warming and an increase in the planet’s temperature. It also directly affects other global issues such as access to clean water, extreme poverty, food security, mass migrations, women’s empowerment, girls’ education, even world peace.
Join us for an hour-long conversation on how RPCVs are working to address climate change within their communities as well as nationwide and around the world. Help us connect the dots as we develop a shared agenda that brings together RPCV advocates of many other issues and enables them to collaborate together on climate change. Share your thoughts on setting goals and finding practical ways for moving forward. Learn how your experience in the Peace Corps can make a difference in motivating others in your community to address climate change.
