About Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of Southern Arizona – Desert Doves
The Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of Southern Arizona is a registered 501(c)(3). Also known as the Desert Doves or “Doves”, members have been meeting since the 1970’s. The organization was officially founded in 1991 with a mission to “Continue to work for world peace, understanding and well-being, with an emphasis on bringing the world back home.” The group consists of over 100 members that represent over 70 countries and include members from the beginning of Peace Corps (Columbia 1961), recently returned, and everyone in between. Many of our newer members are Peace Corps Coverdell Fellows from the University of Arizona. The Doves hold bi-monthly general meetings and other social events on the off months with other activities throughout the year. There are two major fundraising efforts each year, with all proceeds going to support Peace Corps Partnership Projects (PCPP). The Doves continue to grow their membership, share their Peace Corps stories, give back to the local community, and contribute to the development of other communities throughout the world.
