2013 Boston Annual Gathering Sponsorship
Over 1.3 million people participated in Peace Corps 50th Anniversary events in 2011, illustrating the strong desire of the Peace Corps community to come together to solve problems, share best practices and experience new cultures. The National Peace Corps Association’s (NPCA) annual Peace Corps Connect is an important continuation of this spirit and an opportunity for the community to continue to make changes around the world and here in the United States. The June 28- June 29 events will feature remarks by NPCA’s 2013 Harris Wofford Global Citizen Award Winner, sessions about advocacy, media, mentoring and career resources for Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs); as well as panels and sessions hosted by NPCA’s member groups. In addition to sessions and panels, NPCA will host an awards ceremony and reception to honor winners of the Harris Wofford Global Citizen, Sargent Shriver Distinguished Humanitarian Service and Loret Miller Ruppe Community Service Awards. An exhibit space will feature organizations interested in engaging the Peace Corps community in their mission.
Over 3.500 RPCVs live in the state of Massachusetts. The larger region encompassing Maine, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, and New York hold over 13,000 RPCVs. While in most cases the Peace Corps demographic for events skews more mature, the Boston population offers an opportunity to connect with more recently returned RPCVs. Together these individuals cover 129 of the 139 countries Peace Corps has served. While serving, they worked with youth, business, artisans, hospitals, farmers as well as many other local organizations. These experiences instilled a deep sense of social responsibility and seeded an entrepreneurial spirit that RPCVs use daily to improve the lives of those they work with here in the U.S.
Peace Corps Connect – Boston 2013 is a unique opportunity for your organization to share its services with the Peace Corps community. A sponsorship of Peace Corps Connect – Boston by your organization would place you in front of the Peace Corps community as well as helping to provide a venue for this community to convene and continue to serve less fortunate communities.
