2010: Volunteers Return to Sierra Leone and Colombia

NPCA member groups work long and hard to make a difference.  One of the best advocacy success stories among our groups in recent years is the return of Peace Corps programs to Sierra Leone and Colombia in 2010.  Member groups representing both these countries of service played significant roles in converting Peace Corps’ return from concept to reality.  The Friends of Sierra Leone had engaged in a particularly active advocacy effort over the years, reaching out to Peace Corps, the government of Sierra Leone and the U.S. Congress to urge Peace Corps’ return.

Earlier this year, 37 volunteers returned to Sierra Leone after a 16 year absence.  Volunteers are scheduled to return to Colombia shortly.
