Gary retired as Senior Advisor to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Interagency Counterterrorism Task Force in New York City.

Before that he was the MTA’s Director of Executive & Organizational Development. He joined MTA after an eleven-year career at McGraw-Hill, Inc. where he was Corporate Director of Executive Development & Training. Gary also served as National Director of In-House Training & Development at the American Management Association, Director of National & International Seminars for the Young Presidents’ Organization, and Director of Personnel & Safety for a West African subsidiary of PPG Industries. In 1996 he was a United Nations Election Observer at Sierra Leone’s Presidential & Parliamentary Elections.

Gary is on the Board of Directors of Queensborough Community College in NYC, The Friends of Sierra Leone, The Magic Penny (an NGO which builds schools in Sierra Leone), and The United African Congress (a non-profit organization serving African immigrants across the U.S.). Previously, he was president of The Management Development Forum (a consortium of senior-level corporate training executives from across the New York Metropolitan area).

He has also been a member of the New York Police Department’s “Courtesy, Respect & Integrity” Advisory Board, and the NYPD Commissioner’s Training, Respect & Integrity Committee. He is a member of the American Association for Professional Law Enforcement.

He has a B.A. from New York University and a M.A. from Columbia University in Foreign Political Institutions.

He is an avid collector of African Art.

Gary served in the first group of Peace Corps Volunteers to go to Sierra Leone.
