Barbara’s legal career has included work as an Assistant United States Attorney, a partner in a small law firm focusing on civil rights, and a litigator with Gulfcoast Legal Services. She currently is serving as the career law clerk for the Honorable William M. Hoeveler, Senior United States District Judge, Southern District of Florida. Barbara is the former Chair of The Florida Bar’s Federal Court Practice Committee, and currently serves on the Bar’s Standing Committee on Professionalism.

Barbara served for many years as a member of the Board of Directors of the statewide Florida Coalition for the Homeless, and on the Board of Directors of the Miami Coalition for the Homeless. Barbara also serves as a Trustee for Bay Shore Lutheran Church.

Barbara is a member of the Board of Directors for the Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of South Florida, and has coordinated RPCVSF’s Annual Everglades Outing for the past five years. The Outing provides an educational and fun day at Everglades National Park for more than 100 underserved children (including children living in homeless shelters).

As a PCV, Barbara taught math to high school students, and was one of the first volunteers in a project designed to teach small business skills to young women. Along with other members of the peer-elected Volunteer Council serving in Togo, Barbara successfully challenged the pregnancy policy of the Peace Corps so that it would permit individualized consideration of whether a PCV could maintain her pregnancy while continuing to serve – instead of a universal prohibition on pregnancy while serving as a PCV

She earned a law degree from New York University and a Master’s Degree in Public and International Affairs from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School.
