My Ocean Guardian Journey Contest: Shore Way to Positively Impact the Environment
By Ana Reigstad on Sunday, December 15th, 2013
The National Peace Corps Association first caught wind of an exciting initiative launched by Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (RPCV) Travis Bays (Costa Rica 2005-2008) back in 2011. After falling in love with his host country—and his wife, Pilar—Bays settled in Uvita, Costa Rica for the long haul. It was in this vibrant coastal village that Bays and Pilar embarked on a mission to combine their love of yoga, surfing, and environmental sustainability. Their dream became a reality in the form of Bodhi Surf School, a camp that offers yoga and surf instruction as well as opportunities to serve within the local community.
This year, Bodhi Surf School has something fresh up its sleeve: The My Ocean Guardian Journey contest. The contest encourages submissions under two distinct categories: Best Ideas and Best Actions. The Best Ideas category calls for original ideas for marine conservation and ocean awareness that have yet to be acted upon. The Best Actions category invites contestants to submit the ways in which they actively help to conserve the ocean or raise awareness of marine and environmental protection.
The My Ocean Guardian Journey contest seeks to spread awareness of environmental issues and encourage the creation of new solutions. The first place winner of the Best Action category receives a free one-week Holistic Yoga and Surf vacation or Inner Surfer Surfing vacation with lodging at the Bodhi Bungalow. A 10% discount on a one-week Holistic Yoga and Surf vacation or Inner Surfer Surfing vacation with lodging at the Bodhi Bungalow is awarded to the first place winner of the Best Ideas category. Additional prizes are awarded to second and third place winners within both categories.
The deadline to enter the My Ocean Guardian Journey contest is January 15, 2014. Winners will be announced on January 31, 2014. Find out more information on how to enter and what you could win here!
