Providing a venue to share experiences, hear stories, connect with new people, and network with various organizations face-to-face is an opportunity that should not be missed! Humanitarians, member groups, and renowned guest speakers — such as Hauwa Ibrahim and Dr. Mohamud Sheikh Nurein Said – pepper a weekend that will not disappoint. Haven’t registered yet? Here’s just a little taste of what you will miss at Peace Corps Connect — Boston if you do not register NOW!
Among the wide variety of events, forums, and speakers that will be in Boston, the panel of Iran RPCVs and current Iranian graduate students, The Complex, Vivid Life of Today’s Iran: Reflections and Next Steps for Iran PCVs and PC Friends, will provide a fascinating kickstart to the first full day of events!
The Peace Corps operated in Iran from 1962-1976. During that time, 1,748 volunteers served in agricultural, educational, and other programs. Within three years of the Peace Corps’ leaving the nation, Iran found itself immersed in a revolution, followed by the hostage crisis and then its lengthy, terrorizing war with Iraq. The panel and discussion will place a spotlight on current life in Iran through the experiences of Iranian graduate students in contrast to those of Peace Corps Volunteers in Iran.
The Peace Corps Iran Association (PCIA) is a recently formed nonprofit that honors the Peace Corps’ service in Iran while supporting their members in incorporating the goals and ideals of the Peace Corps into Americans’ dialogue about present-day Iran. The panel, organized by PCIA members Kendall Dudley and Tom Huf, will supply a forum for discussion that will prove both captivating as well as informative, allowing Iran RPCVs, Iranian graduate students, and all those in attendance to bring their collective experiences together and begin reconnecting and brainstorming ways to carry the Peace Corps experience forward into daily life. Do not miss this enthralling panel discussion!
