Commemorative Momentum

By Jonathan Pearson on Thursday, March 14th, 2013

Congresswoman Gwen Moore (D-WI) shown here (center) during a 2011 district office meeting with members of the Milwaukee Peace Corps community, is an early co-sponsor of Peace Corps commemorative legislation.

Legislative approval of  a proposed Peace Corps Commemorative site near the National Mall is off to a quick start in the new 113th Congress.

Thursday morning, members of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee took hardly any time in advancing the legislation, voting unanimously in favor of Senate Bill 230, introduced a few weeks ago by Senators Rob Portman (R-OH) and Mark Udall (D-CO).

In the House of Representatives, the list of co-sponsors of RPCV Congressman Joe Kennedy’s (D-MA) Peace Corps Commemorative legislation (H.R. 915) has quickly grown to 14.
