Molly Mattessich to Speak at World Food Prize Borlaug Dialogue
By Sarah Kana on Monday, September 10th, 2012
Molly Mattessich, the National Peace Corps Association’s Manager of Online Initiatives, and lead project manager of Africa Rural Connect, will be speaking at The World Food Prize’s 2012 Borlaug Dialogue. The event will take place on October 17-19, 2012 in Des Moines, Iowa at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown Hotel.
The World Food Prize is the foremost international award recognizing the achievements of individuals who have advanced human development by improving the quality, quantity or availability of food in the world. The Prize recognizes contributions in any field involved in the world food supply — food and agriculture science and technology, manufacturing, marketing, nutrition, economics, poverty alleviation, political leadership and the social sciences. The World Food Prize emphasizes the importance of a nutritious and sustainable food supply for all people. By honoring those who have worked successfully toward this goal, The Prize calls attention to what has been done to improve global food security and to what can be accomplished in the future.
The 2012 Borlaug Dialogue will highlight the role of partnerships and their importance in confronting hunger challenges by driving forward cutting edge research and application at the intersection of science, education and enterprise. Molly’s presentation will be a part of the new “DialogueNEXT” session and will focus on ways that Africa Rural Connect has been used to mobilize young people and engage them in agricultural development. In particular, she will focus on ways to cultivate their ideas and involve them in the implementation of scaleable agribusiness plans.
Africa Rural Connect is an online collaboration space where Peace Corps Volunteers, the African Diaspora, and rural farmers incubate rural agricultural development initiatives.
Molly’s work on Africa Rural Connect is profiled in the 2010 book Empowered: Unleash Your Employees, Energize Your Customers, and Transform Your Business published by Forrester Research.
