In many ways, the name Kennedy is synonymous with American politics.  And in some ways, it is also connected with the Peace Corps.

And while news of another Kennedy throwing his hat in the political ring is not unique, this one has Peace Corps in his resume.

Joseph Kennedy III, great nephew of president John F. Kennedy, and a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (RPCV) who served in the Dominican Republic from 2004 – 2006, announced his intention to run for Congress in Massachusett’s 4th Congressional District.  Kennedy is seeking the congressional seat being vacated by retiring Congressman Barney Frank.

Last year marked the first time in more than 60 years that a Kennedy was not serving in Congress.

Four RPCVs – Sam Farr (D-CA), Tom Petri (R-WI), Mike Honda (D-CA) and John Garamendi (D-CA) are currently serving in the House of Representatives.  All are expected to seek re-election.

Former RPCV Congressman Chris Shays is running for the Republican U.S. Senate nomination in Connecticut.
