By Molly Mattessich on Wednesday, September 21st, 2011

A dinner reception at the Embassy…

Happy hour with training mates…

Discussion panel of global leaders…

Peace Corps has been around for 50 years! Let’s utilize the latest technologies to connect with each other.

From Twitter to Facebook to Flickr to Ning to YouTube to Google Maps … now’s the time to connect online and offline!

CALENDAR

There are over 200 events happening in Washington, DC during the September 21-25 weekend of events. Some are organized by the National Peace Corps Association – the majority are planned by YOU.

Find all of the events in ONE PLACE when you go utilize the 50th Anniversary Calendar. A joint project between the NPCA and the Peace Corps, this calendar is your one-stop-shop to find event times and locations. You can search events by country of service or location to find ones that interest you. All of the events are color-coded  based on the individuals or organization that are planning them.

If you are bustling around the city and are not near a computer, there is good news! Use the Calendar Application on your smartphone or BlackBerry to find your next destination and check on last minute event details. On your phone, type into the browser:  http://peacecorps2010.sched.org

ELECTRONIC BULLETIN BOARD

Looking for a friend? Why not post a message on the special 50th Anniversary Weekend group on the NPCA Community (Ning) site. That way, you’ll know right away via email if you get a response.  Still looking for a place to stay in DC, or willing to host a fellow RPCV?  Check out the Couchsurfing/Hospitality group.

And don’t forget to “like” our page on Facebook.  It’s a great way to stay updated and connected to the Peace Corps community.

GOOGLE MAP

Need help getting from point A to point B?  We’ve created a Peace Corps 50th Anniversary Google Map with pins marking the major NPCA events.

TWITTER

If you are on Twitter, be sure to include hashtag #pc50th when tweeting about the 50th Anniversary weekend.  You can ask questions in real time and follow NPCA’s tweets at pcorpsconnect.

PHOTO SHARING

Finally, together let’s create a visual record of these several days of amazing event! Add your photos and videos with a caption and tags to the National Peace Corps Association Flickr 50th Anniversary group here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/peacecorpsseptember2011/.

Over 4,000 members of the Peace Corps Community will be in town to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Peace Corps. Don’t get lost in the crowd – utilize the calendar – share your tweets – post your photos – and we’ll all create a lifetime of memories!

Have questions about any of the technology that the National Peace Corps Association is using to connect members of the Peace Corps Community? Post them below!

Great job with the custom Google Maps and I’m really happy to see that our Sched.org recommendation is paying off for you!
