Almost Here: Peace Corps Cyclist Headed to DC

By Erica Burman on Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

Remember Thomas Camero?  The Honduras Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (RPCV) who is cycling across the country from Oregon to join thousands of other RPCVs here in Washington, D.C. next week for Peace Corps 50th anniversary events?

Well we heard from him this morning, and he’s almost here!

Hello Friends…

Whew, it’s been a long, wonderful journey. I am now in Virginia, close to Lexington, and will be able to make a 21 Sept. ride into DC, pending no more dog attacks, wrong way turns, or “you can’t go there, it’s too far” comments.

I have reviewed George’s earlier suggestions to get into DC, and catching the W&OD from Purcelville is around a 45 mile jaunt. I think I would rather have more like 25 miles to ride the last day, if possible, and have anyone available to join me along the route into the city. I have no idea where my terminus might be, suggestions?

I have a cell 541-399-4946 now, and as I get closer I’ll broadcast my whereabouts. Sure hope U, other RPCVs, friends, and family will be able to join the entourage.

Thanks mucho for your support.

T, Rider 002

Congratulations Thomas for making it this far. We look forward to meeting you in person!
