Be an Advocate this August in Your Own Backyard
By Guest Contributor on Friday, June 10th, 2011
You don’t have to travel to Washington to have an impact or connect with your lawmakers. You can do it right in your own backyard. August is the traditional month for a congressional recess, and many lawmakers will be back home meeting with constituents. It’s the perfect time—and likely most convenient—to meet with your Congressperson or Senator and let them know how important the Peace Corps is.
This will be a challenging budget year as Congress is considering major cuts to the Peace Corps and other international affairs programs, so it is important to let them know how vital the Peace Corps is as they return to their home district to meet with constituents.
To this end, the NPCA is organizing a coordinated effort to connect with lawmakers across the country from August 1st to 15th, and is looking for leaders to help lead direct efforts by coordinating meetings in your state/region. We are currently looking for volunteer leaders to coordinate meetings in their area. Contact Ty Diringer if you can help coordinate a meeting.
Thanks and get ready for a our August District Advocacy Days!
