Transition Support: Career Events for Returned Volunteers
By Abad Allawi on Thursday, May 26th, 2011
Are you an engineer looking for a job in the private sector? A Community Development RPCV hoping for a career in the nonprofit sector? An IT sector RPCV with skills to offer the federal government?
Peace Corps is holding career events for Return Peace Corps Volunteers once a month till September. These events bring together resources and information tailored to RPCVs seeking jobs in the public, private and nonprofit sectors. You’ll learn how to tell your Peace Corps story in the job-search setting. Receive RPCV-specific job-searching advice and best practices. And meet employers who value the skills gained in the Peace Corps. It is a great way for RPCVs to network with other former volunteers as well as future employers, and to learn about opportunities to engage in Peace Corps’ third goal and recruitment activities.
But don’t just take our word for it. Here is what RPCVs had to say about previous Career Events:
“The RPCV career event was a great opportunity to refresh networking skills and soak up the optimistic, caring Peace Corps vibe.”
Elizabeth Don – Armenia, 2007-2009
“The RPCV career event was a great way to find resources, information, and to network with possible job leads. Meeting and hearing other RPCVs’ stories was re-energizing.”
Carolina Tercero, Mongolia 2009-2010
·
“As I just recently returned from my PC service and am entering the overwhelming world of the “job search” for the very first time, this event from RVS really helped orient me to the process and really improved my ability to speak eloquently about my service.”
Courtney Alen, Mozambique 08-10
The next RPCV Career Event happens on June 10 in Dallas, Texas, with three more after that in Chicago, Washington DC and New York City. To learn more about Career Events hosted by Peace Corps’ Office of Returned Volunteer Services, click here.
