NPCA Disqualifies 1st Place Winner, Announces New Finalists for ‘My Piece of the Peace Corps’ Contest

The National Peace Corps Association has disqualified one of the winners of the “My Piece of the Peace Corps” video contest. The entry “The Peace Corps Effect,” featuring a Moldovan teenager, had won first place, but the judges ruled that the song used in the video was actually under copyright, violating contest rules.  The new winners are as follows:

First Place. My Piece of the Peace Corps (Zambia) by Carrie Pavlik.

Carrie Pavlik of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania will receive a $2,500 cash prize for her video, “My Piece of the Peace Corps.”

Second Place. A Peace Corps Song (Burkina Faso) by John Garvey.

John Garvey, a Peace Corps volunteer serving in Burkina Faso who is from Chicago, Illinois, will receive a $1,000 cash prize for his light-hearted video, “A Peace Corps Song.”

3rd Place. Leaving Home (Vanuatu) by Matthew Hardwick.

Matthew Hardwick, a Peace Corps Volunteer serving in Vanuata who is from Lakeland, Florida, will receive a $500 cash prize for his video, “Leaving Home (Vanuatu).”

There were many, many excellent videos all showing different facets of the Peace Corps experience and legacy.  However do yourself a favor and be sure to watch all the submitted videos on our My Piece of the Peace Corps YouTube Playlist!
