Sign the Service World Declaration

By Jonathan Pearson on Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

Molly Farren (l) of Civic Enterprises and Jack Sibley (r) of the Global Peace Festival with NPCA Advocacy Coordinator Jonathan Pearson at the University of Michigan's 2 AM event to mark President Kennedy's historic speech. Molly and Jack have been integral in assisting with the launch of the Service World declaration

The National Peace Corps Association (NPCA), as one of the founding members of the Building Bridges Coalition and a convenor of the Service World initiative, is urging all supporters to add their name – as well as a passionate comment that references your Peace Corps service and interest in international volunteerism – to the Service World Declaration.

FOLLOW THIS LINK to sign the declaration.

This bold initiative is designed to mobilize tens of thousands of citizen voices – from all around the world – to express their continued commitment to international service and their support for expanded opportunities to join the Peace Corps or engage in other forms of international service.

“Two years ago, close to 20,000 members and friends of the Peace Corps community signed onto NPCA’s petition to President Obama during the More Peace Corps Campaign”, said NPCA President Kevin Quigley.  “We need our supporters to redouble their efforts at this time, to build a broad and dynamic constituency around the Service World initative.”

Quigley says with hundreds of organizations supporting the Service World vision, this is the moment to greatly increase the number of individual voices urging more opportunities for international service as a key component to promote peaceful engagement, cross-cultural understanding and human development.  Please sign the declaration now and leave a compelling, heartfelt comment about the importance of service, your past service and your potential interest in serving once more – in the space provided on the declaration.  Your comments will be shared with lawmakers and other opinion leaders as the case is made for more global service.
