As the World Cup Begins, Education is the Goal
By Erica Burman on Friday, June 11th, 2010
As the World Cup begins and millions of people around the world turn their attention to soccer, the 1 Goal Campaign is also bringing attention to the need for quality universal basic education. The US Chapter of the Global Campaign for Education has a number of activities associated with the Campaign where you can take action to support the cause.
This isn’t the only event coming up in the next few weeks. Closer to home, Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs) are invited to be advocates for universal basic education on Capitol Hill on June 22nd. The advocacy group RESULTS will be hosting a Capitol Hill Advocacy Day as part of its international conference and urging support for the Education for All Act. There will be a training session the night before where participants will be teamed up with other advocates and learn more about the Act in order to prepare for the next day.
Then on the 22nd we will be going to the Hill, where teams will attend meetings with the staff of lawmakers and advocate on behalf of this important legislation.
If you are interested in participating in the June 22nd advocacy day for universal basic education (no prior advocacy experience is necessary), contact us at advocacy@peacecorpsconnect.org to get signed up.
As these two events draw near it is important to continue raising awareness about the Education for All Act and the 1 Goal Campaign. NPCA has produced a short video highlighting these activities. Please take a moment to watch it and share with others.
