Experience on organization boards:
James is finishing up his 3rd term as the elected President of the Board of Directors for the Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of Washington, DC and has led this group’s efforts to implement programs, activities and advocacy for its 600 members and the wider DC metro community of more than 3,000 RPCVs. In this position, he directs strategic planning and ensures the board is taking action to meet goals and that all activities support RPCVw’s mission and vision. He presides over meetings, plans board strategy, engages in fundraising and represents RPCVw to media and other organizations with public speaking. During his tenure as President, RPCVw has significantly expanded engagement and membership. He also has the responsibility to represent RPCVw on the Peace Corps 50th Anniversary Committee.

Board Nomination Statement:
As the President of RPCVw for these last three years, I have had the pleasure of supporting the Peace Corps community in a variety of ways, including: organizing RPCVs to march in Obama’s inaugural parade, sitting on the Peace Corps 50th Anniversary Committee, and working with our Board to provide a welcoming and proactive community to our membership. I am inspired to continue this service to the Peace Corps community and respectfully ask for your vote to fill the now vacant Atlantic/Nationwide NPCA board position. I pledge myself to be an active, exciting, and progressive member of the NPCA board.

David Magnani. Ed. D., Sierra Leone '68-'71, Staff – Kenya, '82-'83, seeks a second term as NPCA/NE Board Representative, has been a 25 year member of NPCA (NCRPV), Friends of Sierra Leone, Boston Area RPCV’s and regular Peace Corps Week volunteer. He was RPCV plenary speaker at the 25th, “Third Goal” speaker for the 45th, and NPCA Advisory Board participant. As State Senator he helped pass the Blood Diamonds Act, Massachusetts’ Centers for Global/Multicultural Education Act, its World Wise Schools, and a bill to incent practicing teachers to become PCV’s. Dave’s other board service: World Education, the Sierra Leone Cultural Organization and Friends of Rwanda Genocide Survivors.

Board Nomination Statement:
Over the last three years I have worked on the NPCA Board as an elected representative for member groups from East Africa, North Africa and Eastern Europe. It has been a pleasure meeting and communicating with these member groups’ leaders and members.

My interest in continuing my work on the Board is to ensure continuity as we work both on the 50th Anniversary and beyond as well as the focus and work on the new NPCA virtual community – ensuring the member groups are represented, served and continue to be a vital part of the NPCA and the Peace Corps’ 3rd goal.
